Glass Axis supports exemplary artistic practice by providing artists, at all stages of development, with the necessary tools to create innovative works and engage the community. First and foremost, our organization provides affordable access to shared equipment that is otherwise out of the question for many artists working in glass, as glass art production requires expensive tools, consistent skilled maintenance, costly utilities, and ample space. We provide a 17-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week, comprehensive glass studio that includes: a hotshop; a fully equipped neon shop; a lampworking studio; a stained and mosaic glass lab; a fusing and kiln-casing lab; and a metal working and welding workshop. Also, we offer private studios and open storage options, permitting artists to work on long-term, large, and collaborative projects.

HOT SHOP

​

A place of constant activity and high heat, the hot shop is where the process of “glassblowing” occurs. Here, molten glass is manipulated and annealed (cooled slowly) after it is finished.

Our shop is equipped with two glass furnaces each  stocked with over 700lbs of Spectrum Premium Nuggets, four glory holes, five annealers, pick up kilns, and a variety of hand tools.

COLD SHOP

​

Our cold shop comes equipped with a 24” lapidary wheel with diamond pads, 2 belt sanders with silicon carbide and cork belts, a carving lathe with radiused diamond wheels,  water-fed saw with a diamond blade, drill press, and sandblaster.  

​

Cold Shop Rates: $18/hour with 15-minute minimum.  As an alternative, you can prepay for your usage and get a better rate:

• Annual:     $420

• Quarterly: $135

• Monthly:   $ 65

All rentals include entire cold shop.

Four kilns and various hand tools for casting, fusing, slumping, and enameling. 

Warm Shop Kiln Rental: $2/hour. Charged from load time to unload time.  12-hour minimum.

Perfect for detailed work such as beadmaking, our Torchworking Studio has six configurable workstations equipped with torches, hand tools, and gas.

STAINED AND MOSAIC

Our Stained and Mosaic Glass Lab is equipped with a ring saw, bench grinders, light tables, soldering irons, and hand tools. Consider taking a class to construct you own composition!

NEON SHOP

Our Neon Studio has five workstations complete with a variety of free standing and hand held torches for the tube bending process. Plus bombarding equipment for both neon and argon gas.

Neon Torches: $15 per hour or $60 per day( 4+ hours)Bombardment is an additional expense based on project.  Contact staff for assistance.
